More than three decades ago a group of theatre enthusiasts posed a question to each other ….Can The Lakes Region support an all volunteer community theater group? Thirty eight years later the answer is still a resounding YES! The Streetcar Company is now one of several community theater companies in our region, but prides itself on being the oldest, continually running group in the area. With an all volunteer membership and board of directors, Streetcar is dedicated to providing affordable theatrical entertainment to all and is a 501c-not for profit company.

Over the years hundreds of youngsters have taken their first steps on stage with Streetcar and gone on to keep that “bug” alive in high school and college. Many of those “kids” have returned to participate with the company as adults. The family atmosphere of the company is a huge drawing point for adults hoping to introduce their children to the arts. From the audition process through rehearsals, running lines to dance practice, music drills to stage construction, costume fittings right up to opening night, everyone works together to bring the final production alive on stage.

To celebrate those 38 years on stage, The Streetcar Company has retrieved many of their past show portraits and constructed a walk down memory lane at The Historic Belknap Mill in downtown Laconia. On display through the end of the month, the mill invites the community and company members past and present to come and enjoy the display.

In conjunction with the display, a Benefit Concert and Performance for The Streetcar Company and The Belknap Mill will be held on Saturday, February 27th on the 3rd floor at the mill. The ARTSFEST SHOWCASE featuring the Hit Musician Kiernan McMullan of Ireland, will be a dynamic Evening of Entertainment.   This Professional Showcase also includes performances by ARTSFEST PERFORMING ARTS COMPANY, Reggae Jam Band RELEVATION and Performing Visual Artist, Kate Lemay, along with other guest artists. Tickets are $15.00 for general admission and $50.00 for VIP seating. Ticket orders will be accepted at the mill by calling 524-8813 or online at http://www.facebook.com/l/adcea;www.belknapmill.org

The Streetcar Company is grateful to The Historic Belknap Mill and ARTSFEST for arranging for this company benefit.
