I can't express in words how completely moved I was by the film RENT.  As a young person growing up I had no exposure to gays and I think to many I was at least insensitive to homosexuals, if not homophobic.  I hope people don't blame me now for my actions in ignorance then.  I certainly didn't understand what it was all about (and probably never will) but at the very least I now know something about what was happening in those terrible times.
The performances in RENT were so gripping I had to watch it over and over again.  I was turned on to RENT by some friends in my local theatre group. Now I frequently participate in local community theatre and hope some day some how to play one of the roles from the show.  I don't know whether I could pull it off or not but I would someday like the challenge of auditioning for the role of Angel - a young gay man with AIDS.  I'm probably too old for the role but I would do it if cast.
If that doesn't make me a fully reformed homophobe then I don't know what does.
